Systematic TB screening in health care setting

Clinical description
- Targeted service outlets: OPD and MNCH
- Target population: OPD attendees, and antenatal clinics
- Providers /health care workers: nurses, clinicians, health surveillance assistants,
patients/ward attendants and lab personnel
- Every OPD attendee shall be screened for TB using symptomatic TB screening criteria
as shown above.
- Multidisciplinary team in health facility composed TB team (TB focal person, TB
clinician, TB nurse), ART, lab, facility in charge, OPD clinicians. The multidisciplinary team is required to regularly meet and document proceedings of the meeting.
- Proper documentation of presumptive TB cases should be done in the chronic cough
register/ presumptive TB register.
- Diagnostic methods: microscopy will be used for testing presumptive TB cases
referred from OPD. For children who can provide a sputum sample, Xpert will be used as the first diagnostic test and access to treatment for confirmed TB patients should be facilitated.
