Clinical Description
Bacterial infection of the hair follicle
Causes
- staphylococcus aureus
- Streptococcus pyogenes
Signs and Symptoms
- Pain on affected area,
- Itch may or may not be present
- Erythematous pustules around hair follicles
- Surrounding skin may be swollen and tender
Investigations
- Diagnosis is usually clinical, but if not responding to presumptive therapy
- Gram staining
- Bacterial culture
Treatment
- Clean the affected area with soap and clean water
- Give antibiotics as in impetigo
