Management of hospitalised TB patients

Clinical description
- Hospitalised TB patients merit a DAILY ward round like any other patient.
- Daily ward rounds should assess patient symptoms, vital signs, response to therapy,
side effects and complications of TB (e.g., anaemia, pleural effusion, respiratory failure, renal failure, hearing loss, cachexia/malnutrition, IRIS).
- Patients with tachypnoea (respiratory rate >20 breaths per minute) and hypoxemia
(oxygen saturation <90%) due to PTB, TB pericarditis or pleural TB may require prolonged oxygen therapy until improvement in respiratory status is achieved.
