Systematic TB screening (Section3)

Clinical description

• This is guided by the NSP which emphasises a need for active case finding in targeted

settings. The new WHO Systematic TB Screening and Contact Investigation Guidelines were used to formulate the guidelines in this document including the Screening and Diagnostic algorithms

• Symptomatic screening criteria for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and other high-risk

groups

• Screening criteria for systematic TB screening in different settings (e.g. availability of

x-ray, availability of Gene Xpert)

• Role of Gene Xpert in the diagnosis of PLHIV with different clinical conditions
• Overall approach to presumptive TB
• Detailed guidance on implementation in different settings

1.3.4 The empirical use of the WHO category II regimen in patients who require retreatment for TB (Section 6)

• In patients who require TB retreatment, the category II regimen should no

longer be prescribed and drug susceptibility testing should be conducted to inform the choice of treatment regimen.
