Clinical description
- An HIV-positive patient’s condition could worsen within the first 6 months of starting
ART because of IRIS. IRIS is a result of recovery of the body’s immune system.
- There are two common IRIS scenarios:
o An unmasking of an occult opportunistic infection o A paradoxical symptomatic relapse or worsening of a prior infection that was seemingly diagnosed and treated successfully.
