DR-TB service arrangement

Clinical description

• DR-TB referral centres: these are central referral hospitals responsible for managing

of complicated RR-/MDR-/XDR-TB patients/. The facilities report directly to NTP and receive the necessary commodities from central unit.

• DR-TB registration sites (treatment initiating centres): These are district hospitals

which are responsible for initiating second-line TB treatment services for RR-/MDR- TB for ambulatory patients. They have also responsible for reporting of DR-TB data.

• DR-TB treatment follow-up sites: These are health facilities that provide daily DOT

located close to the homes of the DR-TB patients that.

• Community volunteers: During home visits, community volunteers are responsible for

referring family members of confirmed drug-resistant TB patients’ health facilities for contact investigation.

• Culture / DST facilities: These are responsible for receiving and processing DR-TB

sputum from peripheral sites and providing the results to the referring health facilities as per the specified turnaround time. They also provide follow-up culture test for confirmed RR-/MDR/TB patients enrolled on second-line treatment.

• TB microscopy centres: responsible for performing monthly follow-up sputum

microscopy for drug-resistant TB patients on treatment.

o Health facilities with Xpert MTB/RIF services: Xpert MTB/RIF sites are 66 National Tuberculosis Control Programme responsible for processing samples received from sites were Xpert MTB/RIF technology is not yet available and providing the results to the requesting facility as per the specified turnaround time.
