Cervical cancer screening in WLHIV

Clinical description
- WLHIV are at-higher risk for human papilloma virus (HPV) disease such as cervical cancer and
genital warts.
o Screen all WLHIV annually for cervical cancer o Screen and treat precancerous lesions at the same visit. Pathology confirmation is not necessary o Thermocoagulation is the most common treatment but may not be definitive requiring annual follow up.
- HPV vaccine is very safe and effective in preventing HPV infection and disease
o Vaccinate before start of sexual activity o All girls aged 9-14 years are eligible How to screen for cervical cancer
- Screen all WLHIV at enrolment into care and annually thereafter. See section 8.2.12 on page
- Manage according to latest Malawi cervical cancer guidelines.
